The mission of the Pangborn Sensory Science Trust is to aid the global development of sensory and consumer science through scientific, educational and philanthropic activities.
Who We Are
Our mission:
We are a non-profit organization that governs the Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium and that supports early career scientists in their scientific and professional development. Currently we provide funding opportunities to attend the Pangborn Symposia. The future goals of the Trust are to widen these scientific activities to facilitate global diversity and the needs of those new to the sensory and consumer science community.
The Pangborn Sensory Science Trust is a registered 501(3)(c) incorporated in 2020 in Illinois, USA . It is governed by a global board of nine directors consisting of acknowledged experts in sensory and consumer science.
Our history
Pangborn Sensory Science Trust was established in 2020 by a group of past organizers of the Pangborn Science Symposium. The Symposium has met biennially for more than 30 years, gathering leading experts in sensory and consumer science to share the latest knowledge in the field and to discuss future scientific and research trends. The first Pangborn Symposium was organized in 1992 with around 120 enthusiastic sensory science experts attending in Järvenpää, Finland and has now grown to a major conference with over 1000 participants.
The Pangborn Sensory Science Trust builds on this early foundation by focusing on future sensory and consumer scientists in their academic and professional development, creating opportunities for all, including those who come from geographic and domain areas with limited access to the latest developments in the field.
The Pangborn Sensory Science Trust is named after Professor Rose Marie Pangborn who was one of the early pioneers of the field at the University of California, Davis. Students were close to Rose Marie’s heart, and true to this heritage, the Trust also focuses on early career scientists in its activities.
